CSNWONM covers a huge geographic region that extends west from Ignace to the Manitoba border all points north of that area and Minnesota communities that surround Lake of the Woods.  Communicating with the several hundred thousand people in the region is a challenge and Crime Stoppers relies heavily on our media partners. 

Awards won at the 2009 Crime Stoppers International Conference includes:

• Best Crime of the Week – Q104 and CSNWONM
• Best Print Special Report – Kenora Daily Miner and News and CSNWONM
• Best Radio Special Report – CJRL 89.5 (Mix FM)

Important to the Crime Stoppers program is the relationship forged between the public and the various police agencies in our region.  The relationship has meant, and continues to mean, that our communities and families are safer and better prepared to mitigate the effects of crime and drugs in Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota. 

To date, the CSNWONM success story includes:

• 7.5 MILLION dollars worth of stolen property, drugs and weapons removed from our communities
• 6.5 MILLION dollars of drugs taken from our communities and schools
• 1500 individuals have been arrested and charged
• 40,000 anonymous tips and calls and the number is growing year over year.

Van Straalen of the Ontario Provincial Police, North West Region offered, “A prestigious award that shows the benefits of police and community partnerships and how it is the responsibility of all to combat crime.”  Mayor Len Compton of Kenora has provided, “On behalf of the City of Kenora, a special “Thank You” to Crime Stoppers of Northwest Ontario and Northern Minnesota.  From its beginnings in 1987, Crime Stoppers has been an integral part of keeping Kenora and area families and businesses safer.  Wishes for continued success!”

CRIME STOPPERS OF NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO & NORTHERN MINNESOTA is a citizen, media and police cooperative program designed to involve the public in the fight against crime.  Crime Stoppers provides citizens with an ANONYMOUS means to supply the POLICE with information to a crime they may have knowingly witnessed or a crime or potential crime to which they may have knowledge.  The program is a cooperative effort that involves Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota and reaches Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Narrows, Fort Frances, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Pickle Lake, International Falls, Koochiching County, Baudette, Lake of the Woods County, Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Warroad, Roseau and Roseau County.
