The first four months have been extremely busy for Crime Stoppers and the police agencies in our area.  Growth through January, February and March continued in April.  Comparing performance year over year, the program has seen growth in key performance indicators: the number of calls received, the number of arrests made and the amount of drugs and property recovered.

The amount of drugs taken off the streets shows almost a 200% increase over the same time period one year ago.  With only one-third of the year behind us, the numbers for recovered property are at approximately the same level reached in October last year. 

We believe the increase is directly related to the quality of the tips being received and the speed at which police is able to act on the information provided by the public.  Specific information about the first three months can be found in the following articles:

Crime Stoppers is a citizen, media and police co-operative program designed to involve the public in the fight against crime. Stolen Outboard

A 2002 50 horsepower Mercury outboard (not exactly as shown) was stolen from a barge at Anicinabe Park in Kenora around March 28th.  The engine is the hi-thrust model, is missing the propeller and controls and the serial number is OT439500.  The motor is quite heavy (500 to 600 pounds and would have required some effort to move. 

Stolen Mountain Bike

Between March 12th and 15th, a black, 21-speed Giant Yukon Mountain Bike (stock image shown) was taken from a home on 3rd Street South in Kenora.  Also taken was a 21 inch Panasonic television. 

If you can provide any information or details on the individuals behind the crimes, you may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000.

An autopsy of Deidre Lynn Churka came back with inconclusive results. The 24-year-old was reported missing on March 10th. Her body was found on Sunday.

OPP are asking for information from the public if they were in contact with Churka between March 10th and March 14th.
